The Knight of Serannon Chapter 1: Shadows

                                  Chapter 1: Shadows

“When you think of a knight, you in vision a sturdy, potent, and protective man. Who’ll give up their life for their Lord…These things are what make up a knight, and all my life I looked up to one person…My elder brother.”

“Adam!” his mom yelled for him to get to get up. He had awoken to the aroma of cinnamon flavor oatmeal. In his mind he knew it wasn’t a good sign if she was cooking. He pretended to fall back asleep. The boy’s mother was quite an impatient and impulsive woman. She ascended up the stairs and smeared Adam with icy cold water. He leaped out of his bed, and looked at her with fury, while shivering. “Good you’re up, now you young man have to get ready so you can see your brother, Lionel off to Serannon University’s welcoming ceremony.” She added. Adam stared with a blank glance for a moment. That’s right; he had forgotten that his brother was going off to become a knight. His mother snapped her fingers, breaking his train of thought. She shouted, “Let’s go kiddo!” He simply rolled his eyes, and sprung out the bed, and did twenty-five push-ups. Ever since he was younger, it has always been be more like your brother; your brother has actually become a knight, and you could learn a thing or to from him. Aggressively he flipped over on his back and hit fifty sit ups. Why is it all about him? He thought.

They finally arrived at the university. Adam sighed and said. “Why do we have to be here? It’s not like he’s doing anything great,” He said in spite of protest. The opening ceremony was about to begin, they hurried towards the big gates with urgency. The massive gates brought curiosity to the young boy, and an adolescent smirk crossed his face. This had been the first time he had been outside his small cottage like house. They were hauled by to broad bulky black armored knights, Adam froze sensing a dark aura of death among them, and they crossed their blades with each other and shouted, “Halt, no one may pass unless they have entrance permits!” They pulled out their golden tickets, and revealed them. He guards retracted their weapons, and one them apologized saying he was only following protocol.

In the main dining room, they were joined by other guest and staff members. There lied several tables cover with tablecloths, and silverware wrapped perfectly. The lighting was even fancy; above their heads were several beautiful chandeliers. The wallpaper was a crimson maroon color with blue daisies going across in a pattern. They sat down at the end of the middle table closest to the stage, and the announcer moved towards the microphone; He had an avant garde hair style that Adam had never seen before. It was purple, and was spiked with a swirl of hair that fell onto his face. His pigment was as pale a ghost. The lights dimmed and glowing figures began to rise from under the stage, and out of nowhere fireworks began to shoot into the air of diverse colors of red, blue, and orange. A voice arouse around the entire room, Adam realized it was the man standing by the mic. .“Welcome to the 200th celebration of Serannon University, family and friends please enjoy the finest cuisine from our campus chefs. Today you will be having fresh buttered lobster, may  you eat first and afterwards we will continue the show! Nobiscum Deus!” The announcer shouted to the heavens. The men who came up from under the stage came out with carts, and served everyone giant lobsters, and as they were, the announcer continued talking. “Now we bring out our lucky 200 contestants who signed up to get into the University, usually we would admit everyone but it is our 200 anniversary. Will the contestants come forth now?!”The boy glanced at his mother in a bewildered since, who was eating her lobster to nothingness. He was intrigued to hear what was about to happen. He scanned the stage for his brother. In a few seconds he saw him standing so firm, and proud. On his tanned face, he wore that same demeanor, the demeanor where he doesn’t fear anything. His long silk like spiked onyx hair fell just above his forehead and the nape of his neck. Adam quickly noticed they were wearing black and white skin tight battle suits. The announcer then returned to the mic. .“Alright now, I hope you all enjoyed your meals. This show is about start!”Adam’s stomach roared and his eyes widened as the chef picked up his plate. Damn, he felt remorseful, he was so distracted by the commotion on the stage he didn’t eat. A frown grew on his face while he waited for what was about to unfold.
